Jan is a highly qualified piano teacher, performer, accompanist and teacher trainer in both traditional and Suzuki approaches. She practices giving the very best teaching that encompass creative approaches and gives personalised programs to her clients of all ages and levels of ability.
As a teacher, “Dr Jan” has recently returned to Perth from Malaysia after spending 18 months as coordinator of piano studies at the Unviersity Pendidikan Sultan Idris, a specialist teaching university. She was awarded a high distinction for her teaching, research and community service there. She has been a guest lecturer at University of Western Australia, WA Academy of Performing, Arts and Notre dame University.
She gained a Teaching and Learning scholarship from University of Western Australia 2006 and presented her findings at the Teaching and Learning Forum, 2007. She has also worked with private associations delivering courses in piano pedagogy performance, Orff Schulwerk, and Suzuki methodology. Jan was the inaugural recipient of the Humphrey Parker Davies Scholarship (2004) from ANCOS and investigated Orff Schulwerk and the Piano in Salzburg and Munich.
As a researcher Jan has written many research papers and articles that demonstrate her knowledge of current music education and piano pedagogy practices worldwide including most recently the National Conference for Keyboard Pedagogy in Chicago 2011, where she was one of only 9 international presenters selected from around the world. During and since her Bachelor Degree Jan regularly has performed and accompanied both internationally and here in Perth. In 2011 she performed Australian repertoire at the 5th Singapore International Piano Pedagogy Symposium (June 20-24, 2011). In 2008 Jan performed in Verneuille sur Avre near Paris as a guest of Mr Jean-Paul Seville and other international students for his summer course. Earlier in her career, she was chosen to perform with a 100 voice choir and full university orchestra for a celebration of Sir. Frank Calloway to a capacity audience of 1000+.
Jan has a successful private studio practice in Darlington, WA with many students going on to become performers and teachers. She uses her wide knowledge of repertoire and performance techniques to benefit her students who gain high marks in performance examinations and local festivals.She offers a professional service to both students and teachers in a friendly, imaginative and happy environment.
She is a very proud mother of 2 sons, Andrew and Richard who are also both competent musicians.
